What does it mean to make films in a place marked by uncertainty, and rapid change? How do everyday experiences become stories for the screen? And what role can cinema play when reality itself is impossible to ignore?
For this masterclass, you will meet Palestinian filmmaker Mahmoud Hamdan, who will share insights into his work, his films, and his experiences as a filmmaker living and working in Palestine today.
The event will include screenings of Mahmoud’s short films ON THE ROAD AGAIN and FI ALWASAT, followed by a conversation about the creative process behind them. Through the films and the discussion, Mahmoud will reflect on storytelling, filmmaking under challenging circumstances, and the questions that drive his work.
Drawing on his own experiences, he will talk about finding stories close to home, working with limited resources, and navigating the balance between artistic expression and the realitiesof everyday life. He will also share his perspective on the Palestinian film scene and the opportunities and challenges facing emerging filmmakers.
